"There is no question that SCA brought tremendous value to the development of Ridges Surgery Center. With SCA’s market knowledge, our physicians’ commitment to independence, and a forward-thinking health system, we had the perfect team to build and develop a successful surgery center."
Dr. K. Anthony Shibley, OB/GYN
The Ridges Surgery Center (RSC) in Burnsville, Minn., which broke even in just five months, demonstrates the importance of the right strategic alignment to the success of a de novo ASC.
RSC is a strategic partnership between a group of 16 independent physicians, Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA), a leader in the outpatient surgery industry, and a major health system in the area. As a result, more physicians are able to provide their patients an option to seek treatment in a facility that greatly reduces their out-of-pocket expense while costs are skyrocketing in nearly every facet of healthcare.
SCA facilitated the development of the new multi-specialty center and led the syndication of 16 additional independent physicians.
The center now has 25 partner physicians and over 70 credentialed physicians spanning 10 specialties. RSC is equipped for wide range of procedures and performs everything from cataract surgery to total joint replacements.
The key to the success of RSC was SCA’s ability to foster a partnership between the local health system and the diverse group of physicians looking for a value-based option for their patients. While remaining independent, the physicians now have a strong relationship with the health system which enables the coordination of care.
The results speak for themselves. The 15,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility increased partner equity value by 125 percent. RSC’s partner physicians began receiving quarterly distributions just one year after the center opened.
